How Many Days? tells the heartfelt story of a little girl whose father must leave for work, and the question she asks before every goodbye: “How many days will you be gone?”

As the days pass, she continues her everyday routines, counting down until her dad comes home. Meanwhile, her father thinks of her throughout each day, longing for the moment they're together again.

Inspired by author Codie Carlson's own experiences as a father and firefighter, and brought to life through beautiful illustrations by Morgan Huff, How Many Days? captures the emotions of time spent apart and the joy of coming home.

About the Author

Codie Carlson is a father, firefighter, and children's book author from Southern California.

As a firefighter, spending days away from home has long been part of his career. As a father, those goodbyes took on a whole new meaning, especially when his daughters began asking, “How many days will you be gone?”

That simple question inspired his debut children's book, How Many Days?, a story drawn from his family's own experiences and written for families who know what it's like to spend time apart.

Through his writing, Codie hopes to bring comfort to children waiting for their parents to come home and remind them that they're always in their parents' thoughts.
